5 Things I Always Prioritise at a Marquee Wedding

The details that make a marquee wedding feel effortless for your guests

Planning a marquee wedding offers an incredible amount of creative freedom, allowing every part of the celebration to feel personal to you and completely bespoke to your vision. From the layout and atmosphere to the styling and guest experience, marquee weddings give you the opportunity to create something truly one of a kind from the ground up.

But while the visual elements are important, how your wedding feels in experience matters just as much. At LMJ Weddings, we believe your guests’ comfort and enjoyment should be considered just as thoughtfully as your tablescape or décor. In my experience, the most memorable weddings aren’t just beautiful to look at, they also feel seamless, welcoming and unforgettable to be part of.

After years of planning luxury marquee weddings across the UK, here are five things I always prioritise to create an exceptional guest experience.

1. A warm welcome

Marquee weddings often take place in hidden countryside spaces, private gardens, or rural estates, which can make getting to your wedding difficult for guests. Start the guest experience with beautifully designed signage that directs them to parking, with clear walkways to your ceremony and reception spaces. A welcome sign will let them know they have arrived at the right place. Pair this with a smiling usher and even a refreshing welcome drink, and your guests will have been looked after from the very start.

2. Comfort solutions

Think stylish, relaxed lounge areas, blankets for when the temperature drops, or even flip-flops for the dance floor. For outdoor weddings, it’s worth preparing for both sunshine and rain as the British weather is always unpredictable. Parasols, hand fans, or even a few well-placed umbrellas can go a long way in keeping your guests feeling comfortable in shaded areas during the summer.

We often build in contingency comforts that don’t compromise your aesthetic. Think baskets of cosy throws in your brand colours or elegant parasols that double as photo props.

3. A wedding day that flows seamlessly

One of the biggest challenges with marquee weddings is managing the transition between ceremony, drinks, dinner and dancing. Especially when each part of the day takes place across different spaces. You don’t want guests to feel unsure about where they’re heading next or left waiting without purpose.

As a wedding planner, I carefully map out the flow of the day so each transition feels seamless; whether that’s live music leading guests into dinner, a cocktail moment after the ceremony or subtle signage that naturally guides everyone through the celebration.

4. Marquee weddings require well-planned facilities

Beautiful restrooms might not be the most glamorous part of wedding planning, but they make a huge difference! Invest in high-quality restroom trailers with good lighting, mirrors, and even a mini basket of essentials: hand cream, hair spray, plasters, and even sunscreen. Your guests will notice the extra thought and care.

If you are planning an Autumn or Winter wedding, then a coat-check area will be very useful for guests and ensure a seamless entry to your wedding. A well-signposted taxi pick-up area will make the end of the night stress-free for both taxi drivers and guests, making sure there are no frustrating moments.

5. A thoughtful finish to the day

The final moments of your wedding might not be the first thing you plan, but tired guests want to be looked after. So offering late-night snacks of comfort food always goes down a treat. Pair this with a hot drinks station, and your guests will leave your wedding happy. If you want to help transport your guests safely back to their accommodation, planning pre-booked shuttle buses or taxis is always a nice touch.
